SGR Extended Once again until December 31, 2012

February 16, 2012 - By MSNVA Leadership

The House-Senate committee charged with writing a bill extending the payroll tax reduction passed an extension of the SGR to be effective March 1, 2012 till December 31, 2012.

A deal between physicians/medical societies and the House-Senate committee will delay a 27.4 % payment cut to the physician Medicare payment rate for 10 months.  The payment cut was set to begin March 1st.  The SGR patch would cost estimated $20 billion.  To pay for the postponement in the cut, the dealmakers will cut $21.1 billion from federal healthcare spending.
