The Medical Society of Northern Virginia is a not-for-profit association founded in 1884 serving physicians who live, practice and have hospital privileges in the Northern Virginia area.

MSNVA’s mission is to advocate for the physician community through: education, business resources and access to up to date information affecting their practices.

Tarek Abou-Ghazala, MD

Board President 2018

Tarek Abou-Ghazala, MD is a cardiologist in Fairfax, Virginia. He received his medical degree from Damascus University Faculty of Medicine and has been in practice for 23 years. He also speaks multiple languages, including Arabic.

Amir Bajoghli, MD

Amir A. Bajoghli, MD is a board certified Dermatologist in private practice in Mclean and Woodbridge, Virginia. Dr. Bajoghli completed his dermatology training at Tufts University/BU combined program.

Nancy Tanchel, MD

Nancy Tanchel, MD practices and serves as Medical Director at Liberty Laser Eye Center in Vienna, VA. Dr. Tanchel attended medical school at Emory University and completed her Ophthalmology residency at the University of South Florida.

Jack Ayoub, MD

Jack Ayoub, MD, FACOG founded and practices at Virginia Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Ayoub attended medical school at Creighton University and completed his Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at George Washington University.

Peter D. LeNard, MD used to practice medicine in McLean, VA but is now retired. Dr. LeNard attended medical school at George Washington University and completed his General Surgery residency at Georgetown University.

Dr. McConnell attended medical school at Penn State University, completed his Anesthesiology residency at Penn State University, completed a fellowship in Neuroanesthesiology at the University of Western Australia, and completed another fellowship in Cardiothoracic Anesthesia at the University of California, Los Angeles

Ahmed Hegab, MD

Soheila Rostami, MD practices medicine at Rostami Oculo-Facial Plastic Consultants in Reston, VA. Dr. Rostami attended Howard University School of Medicine in Washington DC, where she was chief resident of ophthalmology.

Rajiv Aggarwal, MD

Dr. Aggarwal has been practicing medicine for over 25 years. Dr. Aggarwal received his medical education from the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, India in 1988. After completing his residency at SUNY Buffalo in 2000.

Roy Heron, MD

Board Member at Large

For the past 34 years Dr. Heron has prescribed his moderate carbohydrate diet for weight loss and improved the health of thousands of patients in Northern Virginia and Southern Maryland. In 2005, Dr. Heron trained and became one of the first Bariatric Specialists in the country to master the laser procedure for the removal of cellulite utilizing a non-invasive laser.

Mary Schmidt, MD

MSNVA Foundation Board Member

Mary Schmidt, MD is board-certified in infectious diseases and internal medicine and practiced infectious diseases in the northern Virginia community for 22 years. She also has a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Claudia Tellez

Executive Director

Claudia began her career with MSNVA as Director of Foundation Programs. During her tenure, she was responsible for the planning and development of Project Access of Northern Virginia, a program that delivers pro-bono specialty health care services to low-income, uninsured patients in Fairfax County and Alexandria City. In addition, Claudia serves on a number of boards and committees. In 2008, she was appointed by Virginia Governor Timothy M. Kaine as trustee of the Virginia Tobacco Settlement Foundation (currently The Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth) and Board Trustee for the Physicians Foundation. She has a BA in International Relations from DePaul University and certification on Disaster Preparedness and Readiness from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Alexandra Raper

IT Project Manager

Alexandra Raper works on maintaining our membership and on the technology programs. Alex is from Alexandria, VA and attended George Mason University. In 2017, she received her CompTIA A+ certification. She is very interested in the future of technology, especially in healthcare. Alexandra currently resides in Centreville, VA.

Hajra Inam

2018 Intern

Hajra Inam is an intern who is pursuing her major in Healthcare Administration with a concentration in management at George Mason University. Hajra plans on coming back to school for her Masters in fall of 2018 to continue her education in Health Information Technology, as she enjoys the technology aspects of healthcare. Currently, she works at a Bank as a Relationship Banker and plans on receiving her undergrad in May 2018.

Mariah Taylor

2018 Intern

Mariah Taylor is an intern from Hampton, Virginia studying Health Administration at George Mason University. Upon graduating in May 2018, Mariah would like to pursue a career in an organization as a social and community service program coordinator where she can express her ideas on programs that will provide better social services to areas in need. She currently works on campus in the Office of Student Media on the Communications Team.

Sara Ghannam

2018 Intern

Sara Ghannam is an intern who is pursuing her degree in Healthcare Administration with a concentration in Health Systems Management at George Mason University, anticipated graduation date is May of 2018. Sara is committed to pursuing a career at not-for-profit organizations in hopes to eliminate inefficiencies within our health care system and better serve our community. She does plan to obtain a Master’s degree after she has worked in the health care field for a year or so in order to gain a better understanding on the role she would like to have serving communities.
